How to count numbers 100 to 999 in Vietnamese

In the last lesson, we've learned about counting tens in Vietnamese, which is number + mươi.

So, how to count from 100 to 999? This is what we're going to learn in this lesson.

Vietnamese numbers from 100 to 900

The Vietnamese word for hundred is trăm. To count hundred, we add trăm at the end of the number.

Numbers 101 to 999

But how to count numbers like 101, or 999?

For numbers larger than 100 with the last digit is less than 10 (1-9), we include lẻ.

We break it down:

  • 105 = 100 + 5 = một trăm lẻ năm
  • 203 = 2x100 + 3 = hai trăm lẻ ba
  • 310 = 3x100 + 10 = ba trăm mười
  • 999 = 9x100 + 99 = chín trăm chín mươi chín
